Sept 23, 2010

Didn't get any pictures but Honey Girl was spotted in Kaaawa today and was reported by Dana that last week she was on Kauai.

There's somebody out at Sunset Beach right now, but I cannot get there to ID her, so hopefully someone will call in a name.

9-19-10 N6 - "Right Spot" Sunset Beach

Howzit Todd, Dera said you went to the Backyards haul out. I just checked your blog and I am 100% sure that you had Right Spot today. Though her right spot wasn't visible her "N6" bleach was perfectly readable. Thank you...........very much ! DB

Here you can see a little molting going on, unless it's just dry from lack of water.

She was enjoying the smelling of ocean suds

And the water splashing up over her head.

Here you can see the "N6" tatooed on her back side.

Here's another angle of the tatoo

9-12-10 Kawela Bay at Wailea Point

A call in by Peter, a person traveling past Dead Mans curve by the coral wall at Kawela Bay and called in to say that a monk had a piece of fishing line around his mouth but was laying on the beach sleeping. I got the call around 3:45p but couldn't respond till later in the evening. Our fearless leader David S. said that the monk got the fishing line off somehow but still wanted me to check. I could not find the monk, but went back today and looked for it with more light. Whoever it was, will now be left a mystery since nobody was able to ID it.

DB just checked in to confirm that the monk was Lona (RO17) but that the reported entanglement was a false alarm.

It's amazing when you get the right angle, the F-2 Tattoo lights right up.

Look at my big brown eyes. No wonder all the male monks like me.

9-1-10 Kaiaka Beach Park

Kinda cool to look in the background and see a turtle hovering close by

Here she was at Kaiaka Beach park right close to the breakers

8-31-10 Lona

Over the weekend it was reported that Lona stopped by Sharks Cove. No pictures were turned in, but I understand that Tracy got the initial call.

Update From DB:
Howzit Todd, It's been a while. Thanks for the Lona response. The girl is newly back from Maui, and came back to Oahu with a boyfriend (RI13, from Molokai) in tow, last week. Their Oahu adventure began at the surf spot called Irma's, east of Sandy Beach, and then he next day moved to right in the absolute middle of Hanauma Bay. Boy, was that a zoo !!

Since then RI13 did a Rabbit Island day, and has returned home to Molokai. Lona dropped off the radar until the Shark's Cove report, Monday. We just heard about it yesterday. Lona is back ! DB

NP DB . . . this is why it's so important to take pics and keep track of 'em. Together as team, we'll know more about 'em.
