3-26 Shark Bite Leaves Kaena for some Rocky Pt. Surf

Shark Bite is known for the bite on his side and the missing right front flipper



His NOAA name is T15M and is one of the old monks out there. He was first seen on Laysan in 1987. He was estimated to be around 3 years old at that time making him about 25 years old. His right fore flipper was newly missing then. It was still bloody.

His first Oahu sighting came on 9-23-94, at an unknown location, and then was not seen again until 1-17-04 at Ka'ena Point.

He received his right side posterior shark bite on 5-13-04. It was a pretty heavy duty wound but it healed on it's own, and as you see, he is alive and hangin' in there. T15M is a testament to just how much one can endure and still survive.

Here they Are. These next three photos are from Mike Rogers. Very well taken pictures. They show Shark Bites missing right flipper and close ups of his face. Excellent pictures.


The waves just wouldn't let him sleep. He picked a lousy spot to take a nap.





I was on the scene with Shark Bite and Mike only about 15 minutes when he chooses to head back in the water off for another resting spot where the waves wouldn't keep him awake.
