I'm kelly girl and I volunteer at Turtle Bay on Sundays. There were no seals at Turtle Bay so I stopped at the Sunset Beach lifeguard stand after Dana said there were seals spotted there.
I know they said Right Spot was at backyards but when I checked backyards there was no seal. But from the Lifeguard tower I could see a seal on Mother's Beach/Val's reef with people hunkered all over it. By the time I got back over there either the people or the dogs chased it back into the water. I didn't see a seal protection zone or any signs. this was between 3:30 and 5pm.
Do you think they saw the seal at backyards? Or did they mistake it for Mother's Beach/Val's Reef?
Backyards is on the right of Sunset Point. The seal I saw was at Val's Reef/Mothers Beach on the left side of the point.
Were they were calling that spot back yards? Nonetheless they really need volunteers out there. I stayed and tried to help KC out but they were all over KC too! I re-educated alot of thought they new people and the crowd got quite big at one time. Total disturbance.
Let me know next time you see one on Sunday and I can stop by either on my way out to Turtle Bay or my way back to Haleiwa. The lifeguards need better signs and a better seal protection zone. Just trying to help:)

Aloha Kelly, Right spot doesn't have any cookie cutter bites. I got there earlier and I believe JoAnne (but I'm not sure) put the signs around her. I left the area around noon. there were dogs in the area, but none of them seemed to be interested in her. People were walking around her. There was a sail boat about 15' up the sand from where she was basking leaving a small walkway to get by her. The area was right at the end of the right-of-way from Huelo St. to the beach access.
